Rainy Days & English Paper Piecing

Updated: Jun 3, 2019

To wet to go outside, try English paper piecing there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube on how to do this rewarding traditional hand sewn craft . I’ve paper pieced on a plane ,by a swimming pool , on a beach, in the car sat in a traffic jam (hubby behind the wheel!) and on a train.

All you need are paper shapes, a needle and thread, fabric glue and some fabric , I personally like paper 1” hexagons , I also use sewline glue this is my preference( (I know some who just stitch the fabric to the paper), I find it easy to use, as it just needs one dab and the fabric is stuck to the paper, I then can stitch the fabric to the paper.

Moda Mini charms are ideal for English paper piecing they are 2.5 inch square and the 1 inch hexagons fit perfectly. Using the precut charms is an easy way to start, however cutting your own mini charm squares with your scraps or left over fabric is also very easy. Please try this way of quilting it’s very rewarding and you can take it anywhere.
